Ady & Meg.
Having Coeliac Disease in Romania is really tough - generally it is not a well understood dietary requirement there. We were therefore very excited to find a Hard Rock Cafe!
We had previously been to one in Amsterdam and were treated well, but obviously we knew things could differ from restaurant to restaurant. We therefore contacted them by email to check, and found that although they had the same menu as their sister restaurant, Bucharest wanted us to book our actual meals in advance (and we were more than happy to do so).
When we arrived a manager quickly joined us at our table. He was well aware of our pre-order, but keen to warn us of the chance of cross contamination in their kitchen. He reassured us that they were preparing our food in a separate area, with separate utensils and their fryer was gluten free - it was clear that they were doing all that they could, and this talk was more about making sure we didn't sue them.
As a Coeliac this is of course frustrating, as it makes it hard to tell the difference between a restaurant where there is real risk, and a restaurant which has gluten on the premises but have good measures in place to keep us safe.
That aside, we had a lovely meal here, and there were no adverse reactions. Obviously as always, please use your own judgement - this is a restaurant which contains gluten and we completely appreciate that it's often the staff member that you deal with who makes the experience. On this occasion, we were very satisfied customers.
Flossie.
I was not invited on this adventure ☹
