We only got this cable car as a mode of transport to visit Montjuic Castle (which you can also get to by road/walking) - but we are so glad that we did! In fact, we could argue that this is an activity in itself, and you wouldn't even need to visit the castle if you didn't want to!
We're not sure if it was the time of day that we went, but the cable cars weren't busy (in comparison to how many there were) and we were able to have a cabin to ourselves. The route goes from Parc de Montjuic directly to Montjuic Castle, and on the return route there is a stop at Mirador de l'Alcalde (which we didn't do, but there are some gardens / more views there).
You can opt for a single or return journey, and to be honest, the views from the cable car were better than the ones from the castle!
