Getting There

There is limited parking at the pub itself, but there are several short stay carparks nearby.

When we visited for lunch, we parked in this pay and display long stay carpark, as we paired our visit with a hike:

We have visited this 100% Gluten and Dairy Free Pub several times now, and it has become a firm favourite for us all. It really is such a treat to visit somewhere and be able to eat everything on the menu and not have to worry about cross contamination or mistakes being made. Below we have broken our experiences down into three sections...

Main Menu

Ady & Meg.

So far we have eaten from the main menu here twice, and each time the menu has been quite different. On our first visit, the menu was absolutely huge, with a big handful of vegetarian options. We thoroughly enjoyed our vegetable pie and mushroom stroganoff.

On our second visit, we were at first disappointed to see that the updated menu only had one vegetarian option on it. However, we needn't have worried, as in true George and Dragon fashion they were happy to offer a larger range of vegetarian options if ordering in advance! This time we enjoyed meat lasagne and ratatouille and we both agreed that it was our best meal there to date!

Cavery

When eating out as a Coeliac, you have to be mindful of cross contamination. This means that carveries are usually out of the question, as even if some of the dishes leave the kitchen gluten free, other guests will contaminate those with gluten from other dishes.

At the George and Dragon, this is not an issue, as the whole carvery is Gluten free! (and Dairy free). This is available on a Sunday only, and there are two sittings - 12 and 2pm. We booked on for a 2pm slot, and the food on the carvery was fresh and plentiful. We asked for the vegetarian option, which on the day was lasagne, and was delivered straight to our table from the kitchen (as well as being able to help ourselves to everything on the carvery). It was absolutely delicious!

Bed and Breakfast

On our most recent trip here, we booked to stay for one night. To get the best prices, we recommend booking directly with the pub. We arrived at teatime, and were concerned that we would struggle to park close (as we had a lot of luggage). But as per usual we needn't have worried, as the owners moved their own car so that we could park close!

Our room was a twin room, which as a couple was a bit odd, but Flossie was thrilled to be able to sleep in between us (and this set up means they can cater to more people with a dog). We had a great night's sleep, and then in the morning were treated to a fantastic breakfast in the pub. We had a vegetarian full English and Eggs Florentine.

Overall on all of our visits the staff have been incredibly welcoming and it is clear just how hot they are on all dietary requirements (not just gluten and dairy). The food and rooms are also very reasonably priced, and it's safe to say that on every occasion we have left here feeling very full! 😋

We will 100% be back 😍

I love that I am made to feel welcome here. I am allowed into the pub and there is one dog friendly bedroom. There is a water bowl in the beer garden and I was even given a sausage for breakfast!
